If Samba is no longer needed on your Debian 12 system, you can remove it completely using the package manager.
Step 1: Stop Samba services
Before removing, stop the Samba daemons:
sudo systemctl stop smbd nmbd
Step 2: Disable Samba services
Prevent Samba from starting automatically at boot:
sudo systemctl disable smbd nmbd
Step 3: Remove Samba packages
Uninstall Samba and purge configuration files:
sudo apt remove --purge samba -y
Step 4: Clean up unused dependencies
Remove packages that are no longer required:
sudo apt autoremove -y
Step 5: Verify removal
Check if Samba services still exist:
systemctl status smbd
It should show that the service is not found or inactive. Samba is now fully uninstalled from Debian 12.
